Local Parish Records – Search Tool

Census, Baptism, Marriages and Burial records

Census, Baptisms, Marriages and Burial Records

I’ve been working on a new search tool for the site which brings together the historical records I’ve been collecting and transcribing over the years. It covers census returns and parish church registers in a single searchable archive for Newton-le-Willows, Burtonwood and surrounding areas.

Census records are available for most local parishes from 1841 through to 1921, with full household details including names, ages, occupations and birthplaces. Church records from St Peter’s Newton and St Michael’s Burtonwood include baptisms, marriages and burials, with some entries dating back to the late 1600s.

All four record types are searchable from one page. Pick a tab, type a surname, and browse the results. Clicking any entry opens a detailed view with cross-references to related records, so you can follow a person from their baptism through census appearances to marriage and beyond. Household views let you see the whole family together as they were recorded on census night. It’s designed to help you trace a family across the decades without having to search each source separately.

The archive is still growing. New records are being transcribed and added regularly, and the search features will continue to develop over time. Some parishes and years have better coverage than others, but the collection already runs to thousands of entries across all four record types.

I’m still adding records and refining the features, so the pages will change over time as new data goes in and improvements are made. If you notice gaps or have transcriptions you’d like to contribute, do get in touch.

Hopefully this will be a useful starting point for anyone researching their family connections to the area.
