Hi my mum was Doris Baker, she was born in Earlstown in 1916.She lived in Sankey Street with her Father(Bill Baker) Mother (Clara)her sister(Joan) and three brothers(Jack, Charlie and Alan. Their Father(my Grandad)was employed at the Railway waggon works from about 1914 until his retirement, he was a Foreman in the waggon assembley plant. They moved to a new Detached house, my Grandad had built on Crow Lane, near the remains of the old glass works, in the late 1930"s. I know it"s a long shot, but does anyone remember the Bakers, or have any information.

used to live on Mercer street back in the late seventies in one of the miners cottages (bought for £650)them days I believe they have been demolished now.

Hi, my mum lived at 47 Rydal Street, her name was Bessie Peake. I wonder if anyone remembers the Peake family. Their grandmother lived to be 98 and was a character very well known in Earlstown and very famed for her beautiful knitting. |

Redcliffe House, Mere Rd. in answer to young Newton girl, (rather late since her query was posted in June '06)
Before 1947 this large property belonged to the Hayes Family.
Called Redcliffe, possibly because there was red Sandstone bordering part of Newton Lake.
When I last passed the house in 2005
there was scaffolding around the house and I wondered if it might be being divided into flats.
Is "young Newton girl" ( now 4 yrs. older! ) still interested in this house and if so why?

I remember in the early 50s, playing on the 'Mucky Mountains'whilst visiting my mother's brothers and cutting my foot on a broken milk bottle. There was a doctors surgery right opposite the road off the 'Mucky Mountains' and he stitched me up before I went home..Are the ;Mucky Mountains' still there??? |

Hi. I am trying to trace Any relatives of Tom or Peter KENNY. Peter was a hairdresser in Earle Street and Viaduct Street, in Tom Kenny lived in Brick Street. They were my mother's brothers, and I am trying to find out why my mother left home and went living with an unrelated person at a very young age. It's a great web-site and vety good to see so many photos of the old home. Lived at 348 Crow Lane West from 1940 till 1952 when I moved to Burtonwood.
