Re: Newton HallYes thats way too good not to post. Thanks. What is all the white cloudy stuff? Is that the quality of the photo or was it a foggy day/early morning mist. A very impressive photo if that was mist.
Long curved driveway which seems not to go directly to the hall but just to the right of it- maybe to the area around the back. Have we a map of this estate anywhere? Also until this are was later developed into flats, it was very lumpy and bumpy in more recent times, yet on the picture looks relatively even... I think I recognise the lead guttering though. I may still have some of that in my garage. Cheers Sheila
Re: Newton HallIt doesn't look real to me,
The road direction is wrong, and the trees outside the building look not be the correct ones It looks like someone has been playing with photoshop. Steven Dowd Newton-le-Willows : Website Owner / Administrator

Re: Newton HallIt's pretty obvious now its been pointed out. I suppose the "mist" is there to hide a multitude of Photoshop sins.
I still like it as a picture though, even if it's a fake. Andrew.
Re: Newton HallIts an excellent picture. However would prefered it if the mist had been turned into some ghostly figures floating from outside the door with a few orbs pouring out the chimney.
However to the other question - is there any estate maps? Cheers Sheila
Re: Newton HallThe photo looks ok to me the track swung around the front of the hall to a large area to the right of the hall in front of the old stables and in the late 50s early 60s the small paddock to the right had pigs on it for a while whilst we re floored one of the stables after the pigs rooted up the original cobbled floor.
Re: Newton HallI like the way the shadows on the roof are cast to the right, but the ones of the fence posts are to the left...

Re: Newton HallPodstar66 are you in the FBI or summat? I never ever spotted that and I am normally a shadow spotting sort of person. If this was a competition I would give you 10 points and 1st place....

Re: Newton Hallhi, just looking at the old pics of newton hall in the local history section and noticed the coat of arms that was above the fireplace.now i may be going over old ground here but is there any record of what happened to this? The reason for asking is that in 1969/70 i started my apprenticeship as a joiner for local builders f&f.s. whites, now this was just about the time whites estate was built, but the hall was allready demolished possibly by whites builders i believe.Terry white the managing director was having an old coach house in glazebury renovated at the time and if my memory serves me well i,m sure the coat of arms was placed in the front room of the house. Now i know terry retired to the isle of man years ago so it could possibly still be there?
Re: Newton HallI remember somebody posting this photograph on the Newton network sometime last year and admitted she had played around with the photo to give it some atmosphere or something along those lines.
Re: Newton HallThe nearest I could get to any old house in Glazebury which had been renovated, did have some old plaque in the living room. However the house (speakman house) itself was from the 1600,s so it could have come from the house itself rather than Newton Hall. The site wont allow me to attach this sort of file so to look at it try googling the house name.
