Filming in Earlestown late 1940's

Postby ps68060 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 12:23 pm

Hi all,

I was talking with my Dad at the weekend and he mentioned some filming that was done in the late 1940's at the chip shop on Wargrave Road that is now called "The Trawlerman", close to Brookfield Street.

The shop was dressed as another type of shop but they made use of the serving window.

My father missed the actual filming and arrived to see them clearing away the cables and lights. Someone had told him that a child was to walk past the open window, grab something and run for it.

Does anyone have any more information about this ?

I remember going to the Curzon to see this film but don't recall the title the shop i seem to remember was set up as a bakers/pie shop and a lad stole a hot pie and ran off.
One thing i remember about the chip shop which i was taken to after the pictures on friday nights was the coal fired chip range which had its fire hole at the front and was allways roaring away

Hi Dennis,

Do you remember if it was a feature film, a short or some other kind like a public information film or something like that.

Hi Peter , I am not absolutly certain but i think it might have been something to do with the reform school (Red Bank) or something similar i don't think it was a public information film but i do remember the scene was a night time shot and the lad was in his mid teens. Sorry i can't be more help old age i guess. It was probable that it was the second feature short film.
